about

‘Black Lightning’ is the debut single from Melbourne-based prog-rock duo Ambivert, seamlessly blurring the lines between pop, rock, prog, funk, metal, and even elements of hip-hop.

Funky guitars that climax into explosive distorted riffs, ‘Black Lightning’ is a tightly woven tapestry of heavy grooves from Ambivert’s self-produced debut self-titled

EP, releasing later this month on June 26th. Flanked by intellectual songwriting and reflective lyrics, the track details a mental catharsis, self-reflection, and the prophecy of a breakthrough.

lyrics

I’ve got this problem in my head
I see the source of your intent
You’re just the one I mistrusted
Trust me I won’t stay unconvinced

Will it help you turn in and attend
If I retreat and not offend
I’ll be collecting words you said
You’ll have to pay me for your sins

I’ve been messing around with the groove when you’re out of sounds
Cause you were thinking that we’re all worth replacing
It’s a few in the mix that are causing a tick
And I’m sure that with a click we’ll be the ones on your station
You’ll never see me scream on my knees but believe we’re on the road to a new revelation
They won’t give you the chance to repent so get ready for us
Because we’re lacking in patience

They’ve never given you anything more
It’s a waste
The music vanishing away in reaction
I’ll keep my hand on your eyes until you’re willing to face
My lips'll talk but they won’t be doing the action
Everything in their path will be free from the task
From an institute of flattering imitation
Him
Her
Us
We
Them
You
It’s all the same we’re in a conscious relation

(I’ve got this problem in my head)
I feel it rising up my chest
(I’ve got this problem in my head)
The universe is surging through my veins
(I’ve got this problem in my head)
I feel it pulsing through
(I’ve got this problem in my head)
And I will raise a nematic state in you
